ARRIVING BY RAIL
Trains from Budapest arrive at Miskolc-Tiszai Station where you can take tram V1 in the direction of Felső Majláth and get off at Diósgyőr centre. From the tram stop turn to Nagy Lajos király útja, bearing straight along Vár utca, lined with chestnut trees all the way to the castle of Diósgyőr.PARKING
The Castle of Diósgyőr and the Jousting Arena provide free parking for visitors in Tapolcarét Street and in the lane between Bartók Béla Street and János Street. Parking in the neighbouring streets is subject to a parking fee!INFORMATION FOR DISABLED VISITORS
For disabled visitors, a stair lift is available from the lower castle yard to the upper castle yard, while in the castle the upper floor is accessible using indoor elevators. Please ask the assistance of staff to operate the lifts; they are happy to assist you at the ticket office and in the upper castle yard. We inform our visitors that, for technical reasons, the stair lift on the outer stairs is only available to disability card holders. Please, while planning your visit to the castle, take into consideration that access to the castle is only possible by taking a significant number of stairs. The Castle of Diósgyőr is one of Hungary’s most well-known medieval buildings. It is situated in the Diósgyőr borough of Miskolc, barely 5 km from the city centre. Owing to a wonderful natural environment of the Bükk Mountain, it was already a favoured destination in the Middle Ages. Nowadays it is not the royal family and their populous court that arrive at the Castle of Diósgyőr but a multitude of visitors who wish to get an insight into medieval times and to take delight in the fascinating view of the royal palace at the foot of the hillside LILLAFÜRED – LAKE HÁMOR (7,5 km)
The picturesque Lillafüred is situated at a distance of a 10-minute car ride from the Castle of Diósgyőr. In the hanging gardens of the Palota Hotel nicely groomed gardens welcome visitors. You can see the country’s highest waterfall and Anna tuff cave hiding beside it, and have a rest at the bank of the Szinva stream with a delicious locally caught fried trout.
MISKOLC ZOO AND CULTURE PARK (4,5 km)
The area located on the periphery of the Bükk National Park functioned as King Louis the Great’s wildlife park as early as 1355. Today the park presents Hungary’s wildlife as well as many exotic animals. Visitors are invited to feeding demonstrations, petting zoo events and guided tours.
Lillafüredi állami erdei vasút (2 km)
The narrow-gauge railway train runs from Diósgyőr via a viaduct arching over a deep gorge and through a long tunnel to Lillafüred where it continues its journey reaching the Garadna terminal after calling at the old iron-smelting furnace built by Henrik Fazola and at the trout breeding farm. Spectacular forests open up before the eyes of the passenger, and the journey itself provides memorable experiences as well!
